DOWNE CRICKET CLUB

OUR CAPTAIN'S 50th BIRTHDAY WEEKEND IN NORFOLK
In February, our captain, Graham, invited us all up to Norfolk to spend the weekend
with him in a large country house to celebrate his 50th birthday. Golf was played
on 2 days, the women spent a day at a local Beauty/Spa place (which didn't
seem to work) and much eating, drinking and merry making took place.
An extremely enjoyable time was had by all and here are just a few of the photos
that were taken. ----Send £10 in a plain brown envelope for the uncensored
ones.

DOWNE CRICKET CLUB IN THE 1930's
I have received an e-mail from a David Ballard who's grandfather, WILLIAM SEWELL,
used to play for Downe many years ago. In a game in 1930 William took
6 wickets for only 14 runs, a feat which included 4 wickets with 5 balls. William
was presented with the match ball with an attached silver shield. Below is a photo
of William and the ball which William's grandson still has. Unfortunately, William's
wife was so proud of it that she has almost polished the inscription away, but it
can just about be read.
